The University seeks to appoint an associate professor to the Department of Odontology to commence 1 October 2023 or as soon as possible. The position is permanent and a full-time position.
About the department
We aim to promote health in the population by optimizing diagnostics, prevention and treatment of diseases in the oral and craniofacial areas. Our purpose includes research-based and -integrating teaching to ensure that basic, translational and clinical research reaches clinical practice.
We focus on interdisciplinary research across our three research sections and collaborate with national and international institutions, municipalities, regional hospitals, private practice, and businesses in the medical field to solve complex challenges regarding interactions between oral and medical diseases. The main body of staff at the Department of Odontology is financed by public funding.
The job relates to public health dentistry, which is positioned in the Research Section of Oral Health, Society and Technology.

Job description
As an associate professor at the Department of Odontology your main emphasis will be on performing original and innovative scientific work at an international level and contribute with high quality researched-based and -integrating teaching to our pre-graduate curriculum. Other tasks include academic assessments and examination of bachelor’s and master’s degree students, as well as PhD students.
The job concerns the area of public health dentistry, where we approach oral health from a social and societal point of view. We expect a general knowledge related to oral health care and odontology with emphasis on interdisciplinary collaborations. As an associate professor, your research is expected to have impact on both patients and on society. You will undertake research projects with relevance for society and stakeholders including patients, practitioners, and decision makers. Furthermore, you are expected to develop and conduct teaching primarily within community dentistry as well as health informatics, and statistics using evidence-based medicine as the framework. Furthermore, course management will be required in one or more subjects within the pre-graduate curriculum of odontology.
The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Original research, including publication in international peer-reviewed journals/academic dissemination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of pre-graduate research students, PhD students and postdocs
- Actively applying for external funding as principal investigator
- Research-based and -integrating teaching, including associated examination and course management
- Supervision of Bachelor projects and Master theses
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate

- Contribution to a positive working and educational environment

The associate professor is expected to be fluent in oral and written English, and international applicants are expected to learn Danish and to speak/understand the language at a sufficient level within a reasonable period. All patient records must be kept in Danish, and Danish is the official language of instruction in the Graduate Programme in Dentistry.
Terms of employment
The position is a permanent position. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
