We seek a highly qualified researcher in the area of Molecular Muscle Metabolism to join the August Krogh section for Molecular Physiology at the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, University of Copenhagen. The position as Associate Professor is permanent.
This is a position for you - if you wish to bring forward new mechanistic understandings to muscle metabolism with relevance for human physiology, - if you wish to work in a state-of-art research environment in which you can perform research from molecules to man and, - if you wish to interact with a range of prominent research colleagues, fellows and students with similar devotion.
The position supports the mission of the Department of Nutrition, Exercise & Sports, which is to carry out research and research-based education at the highest international level. The research of the department is broad and includes basic and exercise physiology, human movement science, humanities related to exercise and sport, physical activity for health as well as human diet and nutrition. The research and education activities of the department aim at promoting active, healthy, longer, and high-quality lives, as well as ensuring health promotion, disease prevention and treatment for the benefit of the individual and society.
The successful applicant has a proven research track record within molecular muscle physiology related to exercise, metabolism, and cellular regulation. The successful applicant has experience with international collaborations and some research experience from other laboratories. The successful applicant has a clear research plan for future novel activities within these areas and provides a convincing strategy for funding own research over the coming years.
The successful candidate has teaching experiences in physiology primarily within exercise metabolism and its regulation. Applicants are required to have documented university level teaching experiences (Bachelor and Master levels), documented teaching competencies and must be able to reason and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher program for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the research field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare, and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications in the fields of human exercise and physiology. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates.
