BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

A PhD fellowship is available in the Cardiac Pharmacology group at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The position is available from 1st of September 2023, or at a mutually agreed date. Highly motivated and committed candidates with experience in cardiovascular research, biomedicine and ion channels are invited to apply.

The project

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, and currently available therapies are inadequate. AF progresses with time, and structural remodeling, particularly cardiac fibrosis, is a major driver of this progression. This PhD fellowship will focus on understanding the role of ion channels in this process, and addressing if cardiac ion channels constitute valid drug targets for slowing AF progression. This will include working with primary heart cells and establishing and running different in vitro assays including electrophysiological recordings.

Our group and research

Our group works to understand the role of ion channels in health and disease, with a focus on mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmia and finding new opportunities for treatment of these. To this end we use a broad range of model systems ranging from electrophysiological recordings on single cells to isolated perfused organs and experimental model systems.

We are a friendly, dynamic and international team of scientists at the pre- and post-doctoral level. Currently the team includes postdocs, bachelor and master students and a technician. We are also part of a larger community of local research groups that focuses on cardiac diseases, and who are experts in proteomics, genetics and molecular biology. We foster innovation and collaboration, and have ongoing project with international and national academic and private partners. This will help you to build a strong professional network that will benefit your future career no matter if you pursue an academic or industry career path.
