We are looking for a highly motivated Research Assistant to support our efforts in the health-related consequences of obesity in childhood to commence November 1, 2023, or as soon as possible.
Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to pioneer groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health. We wish to lead collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, transforming the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health, and accelerating its translation into prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010, and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.

Our group and research
The Hansen Group investigates the human genome and the human global microbiome to characterize the impact of these genomes on health and disease and to identify interactions between the host and the microbiome. You can read more about the Hansen Group here.
Your job
We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Assistant who can bridge our efforts in basic science and clinical science within the field of paediatric obesity. As a Research Assistant, you will take part in The HOLBAEK Study, which is a largescale cohort of Danish children and adolescents with and without obesity. Among other important subjects, we are currently focusing on the health-related consequences of obesity during the transition from childhood into young adulthood, and the Research Assistant is expected to be a part of 10-year re-examination of our cohort at Holbæk Hospital. Based upon knowledge and experience, we expect the Research Assistant to engage in scientific discussions, including interpretation of data, and preparation of scientific publications. The candidate will have a great opportunity to advance her/his basic research skills. Based upon her/his performance, the successful candidate may also have the opportunity to apply for a PhD position in the Hansen group.
Your Profile
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills
- You are a MD with a curious and hard-working mind-set and an active interest in paediatric obesity
- You have proven an ability to envision, plan and execute a research project
- Good collaborative skills
- Good English and Danish skills, written and spoken
- Experience and knowledge in clinical research
- Experience and knowledge in grant applications, publication, and dissemination of research
Place of employment
The place of employment is at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Maersk Tower, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. It is also expected that you will be present regularly at Holbæk Hospital in order to engage in clinical examinations.
Terms of salary and employment
The employment as research assistant is a full-time position for 1 year, with the possibility of extension as PhD-student based on performance. Expected starting date is November 1, 2023, or after agreement. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The further process
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the hiring committee. All applicants are then immediately notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an unbiased assessor.
The assessor makes a non-prioritized assessment of the academic qualifications and experience with respect to the above-mentioned area of research, techniques, skills and other requirements listed in the advertisement.
